Latest Version of Triconex Trident is Achilles Certified

We are pleased to announce the latest device to achieve Achilles Certification, Invensys Process System’s (IPS) Triconex Trident 2.1.0. What is notable about this latest certification is that this is the second time the Trident has received certification, as the Trident 2.0.1 was certified last year. The certification of a new version of a previously-certified device is an important step for our program, as it reinforces the notion that device robustness must continually be verified and that Achilles Certification is strictly tied to a device version. Let’s take a closer look at the implications of this extension for both vendors and operators.

Vendors should consider following Triconex’s lead by incorporating certification testing into their development lifecycle, as doing so will ensure that all new products have a verified level of network robustness. It is not enough for one version of a device to have attained Achilles Certification. Just as vendors conduct their own internal testing for each product revision to ensure a stable, high-quality product, the same needs to be done with certification testing. Triconex is treating certification as just one more step in the QA process, and the quality of their products will undoubtedly benefit.

For operators, they should ensure that the versions of the devices they own or plan to acquire match a certified version. Device versions can be checked by examining our list of certified devices. If the latest version of a device has not been certified, then the operator should insist that it receives certification.

It is great to see a vendor being proactive and demonstrating their commitment to improving product quality in an ongoing fashion. Kudos to Triconex, and here’s to hoping that other vendors follow suit!
