It's Official & Public!

It is not often in a professional career where you get to be a part of something truly meaningful that actually changes the Zeitgeist of your community before your eyes.

Yesterday I had such an experience. I had the great pleasure of joining the plant security working group of the WIB International Instrument Users Association, at the 2010 WIB Industrial Cyber Security conference in The Hague, in the public announcement of the world’s first completed and operational cyber security standard for suppliers of process automation and control infrastructure.

The “Process Control Domain Cyber Security Requirements For Vendors” has been officially approved and publically announced after two years of effort.

Congratulations are in order for a great many people but the following deserve a special mention:

  • Annemarie Zielstra – NICC
  • Auke Huistra – NICC
  • André Schepens – Dow
  • Frank Pijnenburg – DSM
  • Geert Soulje – DuPont
  • Michiel Kleisen – DuPont
  • Ian Henderson – BP
  • Jos Menting – Laborelec
  • Lex Boekel – Wintershall
  • Nate Kube – Wurldtech
  • Lou Verhagen – AkzoNobel
  • Mart Louisse – Aramco Overseas
  • Maarten Oosterink – Shell
  • Marnix Haije – Shell
  • Peter Kwaspen – Shell
  • Pascal van den Boogaard – Shell
  • Sierk Goedemoed – Heineken
  • Wim Breugom – Waternet
  • Martin Visser – Waternet
  • Tom Kuperij – WIB
  • Herman Suselbeek – WIB
  • Ted Angevaare – Shell and Chairman
  • Ernest Rakaczky – Invensys Operations Management
  • Stefan Ditting - HIMA

The ceremony included a formal handover of the document from Ted Angevaare, the working group chairman and project visionary to myself and the WIB managing director, with the crowd of over 100 people representing 50+ global end-user members erupting in applause and ovation. It was an experience I will certainly not soon forget.

Going forward, this document will form the basis for internal cyber security programs of all shapes and sizes around the world as there is now a formal, open, and actionable standard that end-users can simply introduce and integrate at no cost to drive real improvements into their supply chain.

Many of you already know we are piloting the certification program with 5 global vendors today but will no doubt have comments and questions. The first thing to do is download and read the two presentations from yesterday and then email us directly if you have more questions.

Ted Angevarre, Shell

Tyler Williams, Wurldtech

Moreover, anyone wishing to have a copy of the PCD Security Requirements For Vendors document can also contact us and we can put you into contact with Tom Kuperij from WIB. The document will be online sometime next week here.

I am extremely excited to bring our customers this news and look forward to joining each of you as we take yet another tangible step towards protecting our global critical infrastructures.
