Achilles Level 2 Certification Program and Test Suite Released

February 09, 2011

The Achilles Satellite team is pleased to provide our customers with some exciting news.  The Achilles Level 2 test suite is no available along with the certification program extension for those customers wishing to start certification immediately.  We've included some more information below but if you have any questions please contact our support team.

What is The Difference Between Achilles Level 1 & Level 2?

Level 2 Certification expands on Level 1 by employing more tests and more monitor pass/fail requirements.  It does cover the same protocols as Level 1, but each protocol is tested in much greater depth.  This means that the Achilles Level 2 tests examine more possibilities for the implementation of each protocol.  For instance, Level 2 tests might examine more fuzz values and more in-depth testing for different protocol states.  In addition, all Level 1 tests are used during testing to maximize test coverage.

Another major difference is that in order to attain Level 2 Certification, a device must maintain an acceptable level of functionality AND essential service availability during the execution of each test case.  For Level 2, denial-of-service tests are executed at two rates: the maximum link rate that the device supports, and a lower rate that is more typical of the device's operating environment.  Differing levels of device robustness are required at the two rates, but the end-result is that the device is confirmed to be robust under both extreme and common conditions.

What Are the Benefits of Level 2?

By integrating the Achilles Level 2 test suite, testing and certifying your industrial control and automation products, you can ensure:

  • Your system is being tested against the latest threats, reducing the risk of vulnerabilities being exposed in the field.
  • Your products are differentiated against competitors who may only have a Level 1 distinction, or none at all to increase sales and revenue opportunities.
  • You prepare your system for emerging requirements from customers as Level 1 is already being required or requested by many of the world's largest industrial organizations and many will now be requesting Level 2.
  • Your system satisfies ISA Secure's Communications Robustness Testing (CRT) criteria.

How Can I Upgrade My Satellite Box With the Achilles Level 2 Test Suite?

Many of our customers integrated Achilles testing into the development life cycle of a single product line and are expanding with multiple installations.  Further, customers are also beginning to integrate the Achilles certification program into their entire development process with dozens of certifications per year.  To address this need, Wurldtech is now offering corporate agreements to streamline the ordering process and reduce the costs of one-off requests for new boxes and certifications.

New On-site Training Program Offered To Current Customers

One of the most frequent requests of our support team is to offer additional training programs on the Achilles Satellite to ensure new staff and/or additional users are fully capable of using the sophisticated features of the technology.  Wurldtech has created a training program specifically to address this need and if you are interested please contact us
